A pumping test was conducted at Sobha Carnation which is located in Bellandur. This apartment has 4 borewells, out of which 3 are in working condition i.e. 3 are yielding. In addition, the apartment also receives water from water tankers. Out of the 3 borewells, pumping test was conducted on one of the borewells.
In this case, the borewell was in use for 15-20 min before we could start the pumping test. The initial reading was taken after the pumping was stopped. The static water level was found to be 26 m. All the borewells in the apartment are usually run for one hour and then given some rest and again run for one hour cycle totalling up to 10-12 hours per day for 3 borewells. Therefore, pumping was started and continued for 90 min during which readings were noted after every 1 min, 5 min and 10 min. The initial discharge was measured in a 20 litre bucket, mid discharge at 4 litre and end discharge in a 10 litre bucket. The start discharge was found to 1998 litres per hour, mid discharge as 1306.8 litres per hour and end discharge as 1497 litres per hour. The static water level was recorded at 28.5 m during pumping.
The pumping was stopped at 90th minute and recovery readings were taken after that. The recovery was measured till 170th min. The static water level was recorded at 27.5m during recovery.
In addition to this, we also measured water quality (WQ) of the sample collected during pumping at the start, middle and end. The water quality parameters checked were salinity, Total dissolved solids (TDS), Electrical conductivity (EC) and pH.

The above data would help us in understanding the aquifer in a better way.
We would like to thank Mr.Ramkrishnan from Sobha Carnation, The estate manager and the curious residents who kept us company during most of the test.
